Palace Parquet is installed around a round glass elevator in these pictures. This is probably one of the most challenging wood floors I have ever installed. Palace Parquet is made by Kentucky Wood Floors. The challenge here is we had to install this 36" by 36" parquet floor at a diagonal to the room around a round glass elevator. Each piece is made up of 3/4 oak preglued at the factory to a 3/4 inch piece of plywood. Each 3 foot by 3 foot piece is glued down. The customer wanted the round glass elevator centered in the pattern. This is in a 40 foot by 40 foot room so it has to be perfect. The center of the room is in the middle of the elevator and is a point we don't have access to. Where do you glue the first piece? We had a round glass surface to measure off of. The pattern is at 45 degrees to the walls. If it is off by 1/32th by the time you get to the walls that's a half inch. To make it more interesting the border was originally supposed to go around the perimeter of the room. After we had glued the flooring in place the customer changed his mind and wanted the border around the elevator as you see in these pictures. That meant that we had to cut a perfect 12 inch section out of flooring that was already glued in place and it had to be exactly 12 inches. FUN |
