Blending a repaired section of hardwood floor

We want to remove two bookcases (each 3'x1') that are on top of hardwood floor, and form an entrance to the dining room from the living room. The portion of the hardwood floor underneath the bookcases is the original unsanded, unstained wood from the 1960 installation.

We had the floors refinished in 1983 (polyurethane coating, too) and they are still in excellent shape. So, we don't want to refinish the whole floor just for 6 square feet. We would rather just blend the exposed wood with the existing floor, or perhaps put an inlaid border in place of the exposed wood.

Can you recommend a specialist?

Larry, Mother nature has a way of lovingly ambering Polyurethane to a warm Patina. This is a process somewhat like aging fine Bourbon.
It's a hard thing to match. You say your floor was refinished in 1983. That's 12 years ago so trying to match it with new finish is going to be difficult if not darn near impossible.
The inlaid border is a viable solution but you are still going to have a difficult time matching the 12 year old finish on your floor.
You didn't say in your email where exactly you are located so I did a search on Google for the phone number you provided and concluded you are in the Houston, Texas area. I'm located in Centralia, WA
Here's one of the ways I would recommend finding a specialist in your area to at least look at your situation and give you some suggestions.
Go to Mapquest. Search For Houston. In the space directly above the map type in "wood floors" without the quotes. There are 17 possibilities in your area. Maquest furnishes you the Names, Address, Phone number and a link to a map where they are located.
Call them. Get an estimate. Ask Lots of questions. Get references.
